It ’ s incredible to think PTAs have raised more than £ 1 billion over the past ten years , and of how much that has benefitted our children ' s education . However , those benefits are not just down to the money raised – did you know that when parents are involved in their child ’ s education , the child does better in many ways ; from more enthusiasm for learning to better behaviour , greater confidence and self-esteem ? This is just one of the reasons we believe every school should have a PTA , and PTA Extra magazine is one of the first steps I ’ m taking to ensure we ’ re doing all we can to make running a PTA easier , more productive and more fun – whether you ’ re starting out , have just taken over , or are a seasoned committee member . You ' ll also find an exciting new benefit for members on page 56 . I ' d love your feedback , so please let me know your thoughts on the magazine or any other support you ’ d like from us .

While we might have big collective ambitions , we can ’ t ignore the realities of the cost-of-living crisis for PTAs . Some parents may not be able to give as much as before , or at all . In this edition , Child Poverty Action Group shares some ideas on how to make sure no child is excluded in activities as a result , on page 30 . And the winners of this year ’ s PTA of the Year , Clowne Infant and Nursery PTA came up with a fantastic idea to ensure every child could attend and be involved in events irrespective of financial circumstances . Read their story and those of our other inspirational National PTA Award winners on page 21 .
