Running your PTA

Confessions

When you’ re running a PTA, sometimes things can go wrong – but it’ s important to see the lighter side! We asked for some of your embarrassing PTA moments, and you did not disappoint …

“ Last year we held a piratethemed summer fete! I thought

I found a bargain life-size wheel for our hand-made pirate ship, and bought a pool off Temu for the‘ walk the plank’ we made … Well, the committee had a good laugh and I don’ t think I’ ll ever live these down …

“ I ordered 6,000 raffle tickets and applied for our TEN licence for the wrong date!

“ We run a Christmas shop every year. About four years ago, we bought some Christmas-themed ties as they’ ve always been popular. The ties were all folded in half in the box they were sent in – you could just see the Santa face and hat on each one. That was until our volunteer pulled out the first tie to wrap it up. As it unfolded, she was treated to the bottom half of Santa – minus his clothes!

“ In 2024, our school held the first summer fair since COVID. We had a drizzly start but then the sun came out and all was running smoothly... until the fire engine arrived! This was our big seller and something we knew the kids would absolutely love. By the time it arrived the fair was in full swing, which meant a large audience watching with anticipation as it entered the playing field.

There was a loud bang followed by a screech... the engine had crashed into the gate and got stuck, denting the side in the process! The crew were fantastic, stayed calm and managed to manoeuvre out eventually. It was great to see the team in action, along with our wonderful school caretaker who had to remove the gates. The crew stayed on site to ' show and tell ', which our families loved!
