“ In September, we ' re going to be joined by Will Norman, who is the Transport for London Walking and Cycling Commissioner. He works for the Mayor and is quite active campaigning for and working on better cycle and walking infrastructure.”
When I started the bike bus a few weeks ago, I thought, oh, I ' ll reach out to Will Norman and ask him to come and join us for the very first bike bus. We had lots of councillors join us. It was just before the local elections, so it was good timing for them! Will Norman’ s PA said he can ' t make it, but he would like to come and ride in September. That will obviously be a big opportunity for us to celebrate bike bus and also talk to him about road safety, making the pedestrian crossings give us more time to get across, making the roads safer for cycling and so on. That will be a big highlight for us, I’ m sure.
The biggest highlight so far has been seeing the kids having a good time and riding their own bikes confidently on the road. Every single week it comes around really fast and I feel it ' s another thing I have to do, but once I ' m there I just think it ' s really great. I really enjoy it.
Back in May, it was David Attenborough ' s 100th birthday on one of the bike bus days. We did a special ride where I asked the children to bring animals or decorate their bike. And I had a frog soft toy on my bike helmet. That was pretty fun!
