Fundraising
Looking to make the first few months of the school year a term to remember? Here are some significant days and dates to keep in mind for autumn / winter 2026

SEP

12 September
World First Aid Day
You can’ t predict a medical emergency, but you can be prepared for one. Your PTA could mark this day by checking whether your volunteers know the basics and refresh their skills if needed. You could also fundraise for pupil first aid training – you ' re never too young to learn!
Ask your school if they can recommend a certified first aid instructor. Alternatively, the British Red Cross and St John Ambulance offer amazing courses, plus they have free online resources you can share with your community.

19 September
International Talk Like a Pirate Day
Ahoy, PTA crews! On International Talk Like a Pirate Day, help pupils find their sea legs and turn fundraising into a swashbuckling treasure hunt by hosting a pirate non-school uniform day, a‘ walk the plank’ sponge-throw or a cake sale packed with rum-less cupcakes and gold chocolate coins. If your parents are brave enough to embarrass themselves publicly, how about a best pirate accent contest? Shiver me timbers!

OCT

5- 9 October
Cycle to School Week
Cycle to School Week is an opportunity for families to make cycling part of the school run. Get your PTA involved with a sponsored cycle, a‘ bike bus’ morning ride or a bike decorating competition. You could also host a second-hand bike sale, road safety workshop or coffee morning specially for cycling parents – we ' re sure they’ d appreciate the caffeine boost after all that exercise! If your community is keen, your next fundraising project could be a bike shed...
10 October
World Mental Health Day
This day is all about raising awareness around mental health issues and is a great opportunity to advocate for better mental health care and support. You could organise a coffee morning, bringing your community together to recognise the importance of positive mental health and signpost to support if anyone needs it. You could also look into funding wellbeing spaces for pupils, such as a beautiful garden or a peaceful area in the school. 34 PARENTKIND. ORG AUTUMN / WINTER 2026
