When my two boys started school , I wanted to take on a more prominent role in their school community . It was important for me to be a positive role model for them , especially as a dad and as someone who is not originally from this country – two groups that are often underrepresented in PTAs .

When a vacancy opened up for Treasurer , I put myself forward . Shortly afterwards , our then-Chair stepped down . Despite having only been involved for a few weeks , I felt I had enough ideas , enthusiasm ( and time !) to take on the role , build a team and play my part in supporting my children ' s school .
Our school has a large international community , with families from literally all over the world . This is something everyone at Marshgate PSA is extremely proud of , but it does come with its challenges ! There are parents who are new to the school , the city or even the UK , parents who speak very little English , and parents unfamiliar with the concept of school fundraising .
The one thing we all have in
