National Share-a- Story Month
Whether it’ s a bedtime story, a campfire fairytale or a sponsored readathon, make May a month to celebrate reading and the power of stories all around us. fcbg. org. uk / nssm

May Day
Get that maypole at the ready! As well as maypole dancing, traditional ways to celebrate include flower baskets, crafting and crowning a May Queen – and why not a May King too? Only seems fair.
4 May
Star Wars Day
May the fourth be with you … celebrate with spacethemed costumes and games, food and cakes inspired by a galaxy far, far away, or even a screening of one of the films! Thinking about skipping the summer fair this year? Turn to page 49 for our favourite sunny fundraising ideas
5-11 May
Deaf Awareness Week
This week aims to share and highlight the different ways many deaf and hard of hearing people communicate, including sign language and lip reading. Use this as a learning opportunity and a chance to make your PTA events more accessible for deaf or hard of hearing individuals in your community. rnid. org. uk
16 May
Wrong Trousers Day“ It ' s the wrong trousers, Gromit, and they ' ve gone wrong!” Celebrate the classic stop-motion movie by asking the children to wear their weirdest, wackiest trousers to school. Extra points if they have cheese in their packed lunch. 12-18 May
Mental Health Awareness Week
This year’ s theme for Mental Health Awareness Week is‘ Community’. It highlights the power and importance of community support to help one another through difficult times. mentalhealth. org. uk

World Baking Day It’ s probably illegal not to host a bake sale on World Baking Day! From the humble fairy cake to Bake Off-style masterpieces, let your imagination run wild with a whole day dedicated to baked goodies.
19-23 May
Walk to School Week An annual walking challenge organised by Living Streets, Walk to School Week aims to get pupils of all ages on their feet and on the move! 26 May – 1 June
National BBQ Week 2025 Did somebody say burgers? Nobody needs an excuse to break out the tongs and charcoal this summer, but a barbecue makes for a fantastic community fundraiser, bringing strangers and friends together around the grill to enjoy delicious food. Pride Month
It’ s never been more important to celebrate, advocate and learn more about the LGBTQ + community. With a rich variety of books written by and about LGBTQ + people for children and young adults, why not host a rainbow book sale?
